Dr. Villate is a highly-trained ophthalmologist who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients with medical and surgical diseases of the retina. Born in Columbus, Ohio and raised in Bogota, Colombia, Dr. Villate received her medical degree from Universidad Del Rosario where she graduated in the top 10% of her class. She then travelled to Paris, France to complete an internship in internal medicine at The Pitie–Salpetriere Hospital and a postgraduate immunology course at the Pasteur Institute, followed by a pre–residency research fellowship in uveitis at the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research. In 1992, she received the Award for Best Research Paper presented at the Pan–American Association of Ophthalmology Meeting in Seville, Spain.

Natalia Villate, MD, is a 1987-graduate of Universidad Del Rosario in Columbia. Her postgraduate training includes her internship in internal medicine at The Pitie–Salpetriere Hospital in Paris, France, postgraduate immunology course at the Pasteur Institute in Paris, France, and a pre–residency research fellowship in uveitis at the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research. Upon returning to Columbia, she completed her residency in ophthalmology at Fundacion Oftalmologica Nacional, followed by a one-year fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery. Dr. Villate then relocated to the United States, where she served an internship and residency in ophthalmology at the University of Kansas School of Medicine, where she served as chief resident. She then conducted a medical retina fellowship at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Dr. Villate attained board certification in ophthalmology with the American Board of Ophthalmology.
